GEO TV has canceled to air the localized version of famous Pop Idol. GEO TV officials st
ate that they have canceled it due to the “lack of interest” by the audience. Therefor they have put it on hold until next announcement. Is it really true? or it’s just a lame excuse of GEO, let’s analyze:
Pakistan Idol is the local franchise of the famous Pop Idol series created by Simon Fuller. There was a huge and exciting response from the Pakistani Youth. GEO TV purchased the rights to air the localized version a year back and the show was set to be aired in Winter 2007. Even the official announcements were also made and ads were shown on GEO TV. Almost every local newspaper, blog, and website has featured the huge response of the youth. People have been anxiously waiting to watch the show.
When the regional version “Asian Idol” was launched, Idols from Asian countries were to contest against each other. Pakistanis had a thirst to see Pakistani Idol also. There is no doubt that people have been anxiously waiting to watch the show. And now after almost a year, GEO TV announces to cancel the show.
