Facebook steals Twitter’s @Mentions feature

facebook_1Here Here – Another update on Facebook trying to be Twitter. First the timeline, interface and now this @Mentions thing. Face book introduced this feature under the title of “Tag Friends in Your Status and Posts.”

Now this was a really one of the unique features of Twitter and with Facebook’s intention to penetrate and steal Twitter’s userbase, this feature is no longer a “unique.” I wonder if this ‘@mentions’ feature was copyrighted by Twitter or not.

For those who don’t happened to be the Tweeples (Twitter Users) and don’t know about this feature, it actually tags someone in an update at twitter. Like if someone has to reply to someone’s tweet or just to mention someone in status update, he’d simply write “@” symbol before his username.

I was sensing that Facebook might steal this feature when they introduced facebook username feature.

Here is what Tom Occhino of Facebook posted in an update at Facebook blog:

“Now, when you are writing a status update and want to add a friend’s name to something you are posting, just include the “@” symbol beforehand. As you type the name of what you would like to reference, a drop-down menu will appear that allows you to choose from your list of friends and other connections, including groups, events, applications and Pages. Soon, you’ll be able to tag friends from applications as well. The “@” symbol will not be displayed in the published status update or post after you’ve added your tags.”
