KATHMANDU — Nepalese police on Saturday arrested over 200 people involved in unruly behavior and violent activities in the capital Kathmandu during the local Holi celebrations, also known as the “Festival of Colors.”
Police said that among the offenses were throwing water balloons and forcing colors on passersby. Likewise, dozens were arrested for drunk driving and violating traffic rules, the Himalayan newspaper reported.
Holi, the Hindu festival of colors, is being celebrated all across the hilly region, with people spraying colored water and throwing colors at each other. It is widely believed that the colors take away people’s sorrows and make their life as bright and jovial as colors. ??
All government offices and schools remain closed for the festival. Meanwhile, the government has taken special security measures to prevent any incidents during the celebrations.
