LONDON — British Prime Minister David Cameron on Tuesday signed the Japanese Ambassador’s Book of Condolence following the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
Cameron visited the Japanese Embassy in London where he signed Ambassador Keiichi Hayashi’s book, saying the British Government and everyone in Britain stand with Japan and would do all it could to help the country recover.
“This comes with the deepest sympathy and condolences from the British Government and British people to everyone in Japan who has suffered from the earthquake and tsunami,” Cameron wrote in the book. “We are your friend and stand with you at this time.”
The PM said the courage and resilience of everyone in Japan has been “inspirational and the true spirit of your great country.”
The enormous 9.0-magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami left at least 9,200 people killed, although fears are the final death toll will exceed more than 22,000.
