London 2012 Olympics are in progress. Most of the people are hitched to their Television sets, and why wouldn’t they be? It is THE OLYMPICS! you don’t get to see it every now and then. It comes after four years of time. As the Olympic games proceed so do the Hunger Games(Ramzaan). There too are many people who prefer to watch Aamir Liaquat ki Aamari Nuskhay and Maya Khan ki Conversions instead of witnessing the biggest sports event unfolding.
Well anyways as for Olympics Hockey, Team Pakistan has paved its way to victory against Argentina & managed to draw a match with Spain previously. This probably is the.. No wait!.. Definitely is the sole chance Pakistan has in winning a Medal (be it of any metal. :D) in these Olympics.
However, while I was engrossed in watching the Pak vs Arg Match, I couldn’t help noticing our captain Sohail Abbas’ jersey. It boldly mentioned ‘Soahil’. Wait what? Soahil? It could’ve said ‘Seahorse’ for all are Pakistani Organizers would’ve cared. Kudos to Sohail Abbas though who still managed to wear that jersey without any reluctance for it was Pakistan he was representing not himself.
Lets take a Flashback to the much-awaited Opening Ceremony. Our incompetent organizers fail to comprehend that Olympics are not one of those desi tournaments where you can show up just like that. Our team has to represent our country on a huge platform. Making them look good so they can stand out from the rest of the crowd won’t do any harm. The least Government could do is invest a minute amount of money on their clothes and grooming.
A country like Pakistan is overflowing with designers and fashion divas. Everywhere you look! Everywhere you see! Designer this & Designer that. If the government and the organizers fail to comply, they should take up the initiative of dressing up our athletes. With a diverse culture like ours they have so much that they can experiment with. It’s just about taking a Stand.
Anyhow, lets hope our team is more aesthetically as well as athletically appealing next time around. And for the meantime, pray that Pakistan wins.. Something at least!
