David Folb’s Lashings International XI Ready to Tour Pakistan

KARACHI: The Chief of the Lashings Club, David Folb has signalled willingness to play in Pakistan if Pakistan Cricket Board invites them to tour Pakistan to bring back the international cricket to the country. Folb is reported to have said that he is equally thrilled to help Pakistan get out of it’s cricket drought. According to the official website of Lashings, former member of Pakistani cricket team Rashid Latif is in a position to convince the team to tour Pakistan.

“Rashid is a man who I have the utmost repect for and if he says it’s safe for us to travel there we’d be delighted to,” chairman David Folb said. “We would be honoured to play there, if the Pakistan Cricket Board would have us.”

The country has seen no international cricket on its soil after the armed attack on Sri Lankan cricket team back in 2009. Several cricket teams refused to play on Pakistani soil eventually leading to cancellation of Pakistan’s hosting rights for cricket worldcup 2011 and champions trophy.

Pakistan has reportedly been in talks with a few cricket boards including Bangladesh Cricket Board for the possibility of sending their teams to play on Pakistani soil. Upon success, this will be first international cricket after a long period of 3 years in Pakistan.

Yuvraj Singh’s Website Hacked By Pak Hackers

Indian Cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s website has been hacked by a group of Pakistani hackers called “Pakistan Cyber Army!” The defaced website of the cricketer yuvrajsingh.in displays Pakistan flag as favicon image and the message:

Feel the power of Pakistan

And a message telling the admin of the website to secure the website before someone else hacks the deletes the database. The Pakistani hackers hinted they haven’t deleted the database and only defaced the website. This war between Indian and Pakistani hackers doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon!

New Delhi: Controversial former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar created a stir by claiming that master batsman Sachin Tendulkar is not a match-winner and was scared of him.

He also admitted to having tampered with the ball in his autobiography “Controversially Yours”.

He said that Sachin was scared of him and there are occasions when the premier batsman shied away in fear of facing him. He also claimed that neither Sachin nor Rahul Dravid was a match-winner as they don’t know how to finish the game [..]

2,200 police officers deployed for India-Pakistan cricket World Cup semifinal

MOHALI, INDIA — Almost 2,200 Indian police officers were deployed on Sunday near the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in the city of Mohali ahead of the World Cup semifinal match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan which will be attended by Prime Ministers from both nations.

According to Press Trust of India, security personnel also positioned themselves on the rooftops in the adjoining buildings of the stadium to maintain strict vigil. Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that anti-sabotage teams, mounted police, 150 CCTV cameras, bomb disposal and sniffer dog squads would also be in place for Wednesday’s match.

Nearly 1,200 police officers were deployed around Hotel Taj, which is about 12 km from the stadium, where the two teams are staying.

Over 16,000 match tickets were sold in less than two days in the 28,000-capacity stadium while the rest were to be distributed to officials and guests.

Cricketing ties between the two countries were suspended in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. Pakistan’s official announced on Sunday that Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani will visit India at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Dr. Manmohan Singh to watch the cricket match.

The invitation for the match came just ahead of the Interior Secretary-level talks between both countries, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. According to officials, the talks, the first since the attacks, will discuss terrorism, humanitarian issues, removal of visa restrictions and cooperation to fight drug trafficking.

The November 26 attack in Mumbai was executed by ten Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives which arrived by sea. The group divided in two and carried out an unprecedented attack for 60 hours at the Hotels Taj Mahal and Oberoi-Trident and Jewish outreach centre Nariman House in South Mumbai.

Overall, the terrorists killed 166 people and injured 238 others. Nine of them were killed by Indian security forces after the siege. The attacks caused damages worth around $34 million.

Cricket World Cup opens with a spectacular show of colour and dance

No opening ceremony for a cricket world cup has been filled with such colour, joy and passion as the one held at Bangabandhu National Stadium earlier today. The energy in the 25,000 strong crowd inside the stadium was spectacular that was matched by the much greater number outside the stadium which danced and celebrated to show the world how much the world cup means to the cricket loving nation of Bangladesh. Bangladeshi people have truly given a soul to the event which was much needed after the lackluster dragged out event in the Caribbean four years ago. If there were any doubts about the popularity of the top cricketing event there wouldn’t be any more . Cricket has got its flair back and world cup has returned to its most loyal supporters.

The ceremony had the dance and music without which cricket is never complete in South Asia and it synced perfectly with the festive mood that was all where to be seen. The ceremony involved a dazzling laser show in which projections were made on a long white curtain depicting the battle between bat and ball. Politicians with their boring speeches also ate up their share of the time without which no ceremony is really complete. In the most Bangladeshi manner captains of all the teams were brought to centre of the arena riding cycle rickshaws amid defeaning cheers from the crowds with the loudest cheer reserved for the Bangladeshi captain Shakeeb-ul-Hassan.

Bangladeshis have set just about the perfect tone for the cricket cup world which comes to the part of the world which has truly made it it’s own.

Misbah guides Pakistan to a draw and rare overseas series victory

Pakistan needing 273 to win on the final day managed to blunt the New Zealand attack for a draw. At one stage Pakistan team was struggling at 42 for the loss of 3 wickets before the experienced pair of Younis and Misbah steered the team to safety. New Zealand bowling attack made early inroads into the Pakistani batting lineup when accurate lengths of Martin and Southee claimed 3 of Pakistan to order batsmen. Century stand between Younis and Misbah at one point threatened to win the game for Pakistan but Younis wicket just at the stroke of tea forced Misbah into his shell. Misbah and Asad played with maximum caution after the tea playing defensively against Vitorri. Perhaps the fear of losing overcame the desire for victory as both the batsmen failed to take the attack to the Kiwis in the final hour of play. With 10 over remaining Pakistan needed another 60 and they still had 6 of their wickets in hand, a team more accustomed to wining probably would have made that dash to the victory stand but Misbah was determined not to take any chances. Pakistan secured the draw and won their first overseas series after seven years. With the series win Misbah has further improved his chances of captaining Pakistan in the world cup while Afridi will be determined to outshine Misbah in the one dayers that are to follow. Pakistan team did well against the Kiwis in the test series and showed that even without their ace bowlers they still have enough fire power to take 20 wickets.

ICC anti-corruption tribunal begins in Doha

ICC anti-corruption tribunal will start its proceedings in Doha into spot fixing allegations against three Pakistani players. It is the most high profile hearing involving corruption in cricket after King’s inquiry into match fixing allegations against former South African captain Hansie Crojne. The three Pakistani players are already in Doha along with their lawyers. The tribunal hearing will focus on the video evidence that has been provided by the British tabloid in which the alledged bookie Mazhar Majeed is shown telling the exact timings when the infamous no balls will be bowled in the match. Also in the spot light is some 42,000 pounds recovered from Salman Butt’s room durring Scotland Yard’s raid on the player’s hotel. Pakistan coach Waqar Younis is also going to stand witness in the proceedings while captain Shahid Afridi will join through video conference. According to media reports players involved will get penalised with captain Salman Butt in line for the heaviest punishment.

While Kamran Akmal and Muhammag Yousaf have been included in the list for world cup probables, former captain Shoaib Malik has been given a could shoulder by the selectors. Malik has been left out from the list of 30 world cup probables. “I’m deeply disappointed after being left out from the preliminarily squad,” Malik told reporters. “Every player dreams to represent the country in the World Cup and I was also looking forward to it. I really wanted to help my team win the tournament and my form in the ongoing Quaid-i-Azam Trophy has been very good.”
