Because of this gigantic reach, the whole world is gonna know about one of the most loved humanitarians of the world today. As of my writing this blog post, several major international news outlets including The Telegraph, Al Jazeera and Heavy.com have written a detailed biography on Edhi while mentioning the Google doodle, about time right?
Who was Abdul Sattar Edhi?
You’ve been living under the rock if you don’t know who Edhi was. Although Google is celebrating Edhi’s 89th birthday on February the 28th — and looks like everyone will too from now on — Edhi had mentioned in his lifetime he doesn’t know when exactly is his birthday.
Unlike most charity funds, Edhi’s organisation started humble. Edhi got into the humanitarian work at the age of 20 when he had nothing. He built the entire Edhi charity with his own hands including its various divisions. He saved some money to buy one ambulance and drove it himself. His ambulance service eventually became the largest volunteer ambulance service of the world.
Edhi Foundation’s other charity work includes orphanages, shelter, morgues, burial services and more. Edhi died last year of kidney failure leaving the whole country mourning.
Edhi received state funeral and military guard of honour
Some of the Edhi quotes that would lighten up your day
These 5 most inspirational quotes by Abdul Sattar Edhi are collected by The Express Tribune.
Chasing after desires creates inner turmoil. When the devil becomes guide, dacoits and gangsters are manufactured. He makes men fight against their souls to survive expensive items and most lose everything in the face of his strength. The internal enemy can only be overcome by a personal revolution.
My religion is humanitarianism, which is the basis of every religion in the world.
Empty words and long praises do not impress God. Show Him your faith by your deeds.
The Holy Book should open in your souls, not on your laps. Open your heart and see God’s people. In their plight you will find Him.
Appearance is a distraction, surrendering it develops truth and humility in abundance.
