These transgender persons marched in the streets of Lahore on Saturday to celebrate pride in what’s being dubbed as first of its kind. The pride started off with a press conference held by those leading the march.

It’s a rare sight in Pakistan even though legislatively, the transgender community enjoys rights. It’s yet to be seen if visibility marches like these help them gain social acceptance and equality as well.

It’s also worth noting that pride event — generally associated with the queer community that includes transgender people — has been impossible to host given country’s intolerance for homosexuality.
